Top 10 Best Dog Bike Baskets
Best Versatile Dog Bike Basket
COFIT Detachable Bike Basket
The COFIT Detachable Bike Basket isn’t your typical bike basket for your furry friend. We enjoyed using it as a carrying bag for plenty of other stuff, as well. It’s so spacious and durable that it can also act as a grocery bag or a school bag. It’s a plus that it’s also very easy to attach and detach.
- Versatile. It can be used as a dog basket, a container, an organizer, a shopper, and more
- Easily detaches
- Waterproof material
- Rustproof frame
- Can be cleaned easily
- Comes with a rain cover
- With three extra pockets
- No paracord holder or outlet
- Doesn’t fit e-bikes
Coexist, co-travel, and COFIT with your four-legged friend with this very versatile dog bike basket and carrier. Got it?
And when I say versatile, I mean the COFIT Detachable Bike Basket is a dog basket, carrier, commute organizer, grocery bag, and outdoor container all in one unit. It’s so well-designed that it’s hard to resist getting it! This is among the reasons why we’ve agreed for this doggie basket to become this review’s Editor’s Choice.
And as for its design…
…it’s amazing how it’s pretty with a very minimal design. It comes in black and gray with a small COFIT logo on the front.
And above anything else, this dog basket can fit up to 11 pounds or 5 kilograms. Just to be sure, we found the heaviest puppy we have among our squad, and it’s Mimi, our 7-month-old pug. She’s a little more than 5 kilograms.
We also used it on Rika, a 4-kilogram Maltese.
Before putting the dogs in, I noticed the basket had a bit of movement. But once the pups were in, the movement was gone – even after we hit the road. The basket was genuinely sturdy and stable on both occasions.
The material is 600D Oxford, which has water-repellant capabilities. But aside from that, it also comes with its own separate rain cover, so that’s double moisture protection for you.
As for the frame…
…it’s aluminum, so it’s both durable and very lightweight. I like how it didn’t add weight to my bike at all, nor made it difficult for me to steer the handlebars.
And it’s also noticeably quiet to boot, with no anxiety-inducing sounds at all!
Just for a heads-up, you’ll do a bit of handiwork to install it on your bike. It perfectly fits a mountain bike with handlebars that have 90 degrees of gap with the front bar. If your handlebars are kind of on the curved side (half horizontal and half vertical), it’s not impossible to install this basket, but it would be quite challenging.
The unfortunate thing is, that it doesn’t fit most electric bikes.
…its versatile purpose pretty much makes up for it! It has aluminum carrying handles so you can detach it and carry it like a bag to a university lecture or a picnic.
And it has supports sewn into it, so it doesn’t collapse while your baby is inside. Don’t worry, though, because it’s not only detachable, but it’s also collapsible, so you can store it easily and use your bike for some speed biking without added weights.
It comes with sleeves of different sizes so you can fit it in your handlebars perfectly, whatever the bars’ sizes are. Just make sure to do the necessary measurements before getting this basket.

Best Budget Dog Bike Basket
ANZOME Bike Basket
Not as solid as the Editor’s Choice, the ANZOME Bike Basket can fit small dogs or a couple of bags of groceries. One of the features that are unique to this is its drawstring closure, which most dog bike baskets don’t have, so we still deem this a keeper.
- Reasonably priced
- Easy to attach and detach
- With two interior pockets for organization
- The basket has a drawstring closure to protect your things
- Versatile and can be used as a carrying bag
- Easy to clean
- Comes with gaskets to fit the size of your handlebars
- The instructions are a bit vague
- The basket tends to droop down when filled with more weight than it can handle
One of the best dog bike baskets on the market in terms of bang for the buck, the ANZOME Bike Basket has the same weight capacity as the COFIT one. The difference is this one looks more like a bag than a basket.
And it sure feels like one too.
For one, this is much softer than the COFIT doggie basket. It also has supports on the sides, but they don’t come already attached. I had to put them in myself, and if I didn’t read the product information on its Amazon page before purchasing, I wouldn’t have known what to do with the support strips.
It’s thanks to the vague instructions. But then, I got through it in under 15 minutes.
It came with a number of gaskets, too, so you can fit the basket whatever the size of your handlebars is.
Also made from Oxford fabric and metal, it also has water-resistant capabilities, but it doesn’t come with a rain cover. What it did come with is a nice drawstring closure. I like that I can have some privacy with my stuff whenever I use it as a carry bag, instead of having my personal belongings open for all the world to see.
We used this on the road with Rika the Maltese, and to be honest, I was quite nervous. But along the way, I’ve detected no movements and noise or any kind of instability. Rika came home from a 14-mile ride wanting more!
Oh, and it also has two interior pockets for organization. As for me, I used it to store my baby’s treats as well as her leash.

Best Dog Bike Basket with Sun Protection
PetSafe Happy Ride Wicker Bicycle Basket for Dogs
The PetSafe Happy Ride Wicker Bicycle Basket for Dogs may be one of the prettiest dog baskets we’ve ever had. But it proved to be more than just looks. Its interior is specially designed to give your furry friend a comfy bike ride as well as a safe one.
- It has a soft and comfy fleece lining inside
- Extra safety for your dog with its brackets, straps, and tether clips
- It comes with a removable sun shield
- The fleece liner is removable and machine-washable
- This is a bit wide so that it could make sharp turns challenging
- Takes time to install
The PetSafe Happy Ride Wicker Bicycle Basket for Dogs is so toasty and comfy that Cookies the Daschund often fell asleep during her bike rides.
And who could blame her? This pretty wicker basket is lined with an unbelievably soft fleece liner inside, so she could barely feel the rattan. It’s so good that she also likes to use it as her bed at home sometimes!
More than its cottage core aesthetics, it also has so many cool features that made us gasp in delight many times, making it this review’s Top Pick.
But aside from this…
…we also loved how it’s designed for ultimate safety. Aside from the tough brackets that attach the basket to the bike rack or bars, it also has extra straps to make sure the basket doesn’t fall off.
And in addition to that, there’s also a safety tether clip for your pup’s harness to keep him/her safely strapped while rocking the bike!
And my favorite part?
This bike basket features an equally pretty sun shield that looks like an adorable little canopy made from the same material as the basket. It’s removable, so you can put it up when the sun is shining high on your road trip.
It also has a cage that you can purchase separately if you want an added layer of protection for your biking baby.

Best Safe & Secure Dog Bike Basket
Pet Carrier Bicycle Basket Bag
Very fun to use, we love how the Pet Carrier Bicycle Basket Bag can be converted into a doggo backpack or shoulder bag when the straps for the handlebars aren’t compatible with the bike. It’s also very well-ventilated and breathable. Perfect for hot days.
- It can be converted into a dog car seat booster, backpack, shoulder bag, or outdoor basket
- Includes a shoulder strap
- With a roll-up front “window” for added ventilation
- Its quick-release buckles make it easy to attach and detach
- With floorboard for support
- The bottom is lined with sheepskin for added comfort
- Features a tether for extra safety for your dog
- With drawstring mesh closure
- Also features extra pockets for storage
- Could be a bit of a challenge to assemble
- Heavier dogs are not advisable as it uses only straps and buckles
One of my personal favorites, the Pet Carrier Bicycle Basket Bag isn’t just a simple dog bike basket. It can be converted into different kinds of pooch bags, too!
That being said, it allowed me to use it as a dog carrier even when it’s not compatible with my bike’s handlebars! How so? Well, I can just use it as a backpack!
And the cool thing is, it also has a mesh drawstring closure to make sure that my dog was safely tucked inside while still being able to see the view as her head peeked out of the bag.
…you can also use it as a seat booster for your car. In addition to that, it has storage pockets for your baby’s leash, treats, and water.
Its bottom is lined with very soft sheepskin that was seriously heaven to the tough. No wonder Mimi likes to just lay down inside and just watch the view through the mesh roll-up “window!”
Installation could take a while, especially if you’re not very used to it. Assembling the panels also took time. But it all came together in the end, and it felt very sturdy. Just don’t forget the weight limitations. Medium-sized toy dogs could fit inside, too, but always watch out for their body weight to avoid any accidents.
Best Washable Dog Bike Basket
Snoozer Pet Rider Rear Bicycle Seat
We’re very glad to have found a comfy and larger dog basket for our larger breeds. This isn’t very large, but it’s considerably roomier than the others. The Snoozer Pet Rider Rear Bicycle Seat is also very easy to install and very secure with the harness inside.
- Bigger capacity than other bike baskets
- It has a removable cover
- Stiff and tough base support
- Its three-point safety strap makes sure your pet is fastened
- Soft and comfortable
- Features a highly visible reflective tape
- You’d need to have a bike rack
- A bit bulky
Looking for a new dog bike basket for your much bigger pups? You may find that bigger breeds tend to feel heavier and more unstable on the front basket of your bike. And this is where the Snoozer Pet Rider Rear Bicycle Seat comes in.
It has a capacity of up to 24 pounds, which is already a lot. Installation was very easy, which we achieved in about 3 minutes. No tools are needed.
The exterior of this plush quilted carrier is lined with black fur, so it seemed like it felt just like home for our pug, even on bike days. And she still had so much room to move around!
And speaking of moving…
…it has a 3-point safety strap inside to perfectly and snugly strap your baby in. This is especially advantageous if you have a very excited (or very angry) little breed! In addition to that, it also has a high visibility reflector on the outside to keep you safe even when it’s already getting dark on the road.
On the other hand, you must have a bike rack on the rear of your bike ready, so that this carrier can sit with stability.
Best Stable Dog Bike Basket
Travelin K9 Pet-Pilot MAX Medium Dog Bike Basket
Although a bit strange-looking as it’s not the conventional bike basket design, once it’s up, the Travelin K9 Pet-Pilot MAX Medium Dog Bike Basket actually felt very sturdy and we’re confident to hit the road with our baby in it. It has a solid steel framing and meshes front and back for ultimate comfort.
- Has a front vent for better ventilation
- Great weight support with its steel frame
- Comfy padded floor with foam and sherpa lining
- Comes with several accessories to ensure a perfect fit in your handlebars
- Side mesh pockets for your belongings
- A bit pricey
- Not compatible with most e-bikes
The Travelin K9 Pet-Pilot MAX Medium Dog Bike Basket claims that when it comes to it, your dog’s weight doesn’t matter (with limitations, of course) but their body size and leg length.
Yes, that’s how strong it’s designed to be.
As long as your pup can fit in the basket, it should be able to carry him/her. How did that happen?
Well, unlike most baskets, this one is backed by a sturdy metal frame that attaches to your bike, so it’s the one responsible for holding your dog’s weight.
In addition to that…
…it’s pretty versatile as you can mount it either in front or on the rear of your bike! Just remember, if your dog is on the weighty side, you’d want to put them in the back instead. But if they’re 20 pounds and below, it would be safe to put them on the handlebar mount as they won’t rock the basket strongly enough to distract your ride.
It has a soft lining inside, and I liked how it’s deep enough to not tempt my Joy from jumping out.
On the other hand, it also comes with harnesses and meshed front and back to keep your dog cool inside.
One of the things I like the most is it actually came with more than a few accessories/attachments so you can adjust it and fit it perfectly in your bike, whatever size your handlebars are.
Best Comfortable Dog Bike Basket
Snoozer Buddy Bike Basket
Wide enough for comfort, the Snoozer Buddy Bike Basket also has a removable pad and chin rest to make your pooch comfortable during your ride. But our favorite feature was the snug harness that gave us peace of mind knowing our dog is safety held inside.
- Has a removable inner pad and chin rest for comfort
- Collapsible for easy storage
- The foam isn’t treated with chemicals
- With closure for safety and privacy
- Large external pockets
- It has a latch to keep the dog from jumping
- It could slide side to side with straight handlebars
- The straps may need reinforcement stitches
The Snoozer Buddy Bike Basket actually looks more like a baby bag than a dog basket. And it sure feels like it too!
One of our favorite companies for our doggo’s bed stuff, Snoozer has also made a dog bike basket that feels like a home couch on the road.
This basket is made to be wide, so it looked bigger than the other baskets, but in reality, it also has around the same weight limit.
It’s lined with foam inside that you can easily remove for cleaning. Oh, and this foam wasn’t treated with chemicals, just like most of Snoozer’s foam products, so it’s safe for your furry friends. That said, expect it to get a bit yellow in time. But that just means it’s naturally made.
All of its sides are stiff, which I took as a good indication of its sturdiness. My dog had to sit/lay down sideways as it’s rectangular in shape. It proved to be roomier than expected for our 10-pound Shih Tzu, Miko.
…if your dog is really small, make sure that they’re snugly harnessed inside. Miko was almost thrown out of the basket one time when I came upon a bump and didn’t slow down.
The bag would usually rest on the top of the front wheel so it would bounce with high humps. So make sure to harness and slow down on road bumps!
And speaking of harness, it’s also nice that it has a safety leash harness inside so the dog can’t jump out at all. It’s adjustable, so it can accommodate your baby’s size.
Best Adjustable Dog Bike Basket
RuffLyfe DIY Crate Conversion
Although we still had to go out and find the perfect crate for the RuffLyfe DIY Crate Conversion, it proved to be quite worth it as it was very comfy for our pup. The harness was challenging to set up, but we never had to adjust it ever again.
- High-capacity up to 45 pounds
- It can be mounted on either the front or rear of the bike
- Easy to clean and maintain
- Works for both 112-quart or 16-quart milk crates
- Doesn’t include an actual crate
- The harness could be a bit difficult to set up
Struggling to find the perfect carrier for your big baby? Well, the RuffLyfe DIY Crate Conversion can hold up to 45 pounds of weight!
To test it out, we took our Joy, our 32-pound Frenchie, on a slow ride around the block using this Rufflyfe.
But before anything else…
…just know that it’s not an actual crate. Instead, it’s more like an attachment carrier that you put inside a crate. The good news is it’s pretty versatile as it’s made to fit both 12-quart and 24-quart crates!
So before getting this, make sure to have your crate and bike rack ready. On the other hand, this is also a two-way mount. You can put it in front of the handlebars or behind the bike on the rack.
Be sure to take measurements first, and most importantly, know the weight capacity of your bike rack to ensure the safety of your pet once they ride through their crate.
It has a 4-point harness system inside, which could prove to be a challenge to install, but that is just about it. We never had to adjust it again. The collar has two buckles which made it easy for me to take Joy in and out without any hassle.
Another thing you’d want to take note of is to make sure to only mount on the rear of the bike if your crate or dog is on the heavy side. If they’re under 20 pounds, then front-mount would still be a safe option.
Best Durable Dog Bike Basket
Petsfit Dog Bike Basket
A straightforward plushy carrier, the Petsfit Dog Bike Basket handlebar-mounted and is very soft and toasty inside. Although we were worried that it might be too hot for the summer, it has a mesh top closure to make up for it.
- Can be converted to a shoulder bag or a car bag
- The bottom cushion has a dual purpose
- Warm and cozy for winter and can also be breathable for summer
- Supported by durable panels
- With built-in adjustable safety rope
- Top drawstring closure
- With three reflective strips
- 2 mesh pockets on the sides and one zippered pocket
- A bit thick for summer
- Not suitable for heavier breeds who could put tension on the straps
There’s no wonder that Petsfit Dog Bike Basket is durable. It’s actually the improved version of their first model.
It can be converted to a good-looking shoulder bag or even a booster seat for your pup in the car! It has a shoulder strap, as well as a padded part on the strap for car installation.
First off, it was noticeably stiff, thanks to its thick and durable panels. That said, it doesn’t collapse easily, which I prefer because some cheaper dog carriers tend to collapse while on the bike, based on my experience.
On the other hand…
…some people find it a bit too hot for the summer. It sure is a bit thick. But the design of its top closure pretty much makes up for it. Its top is meshing with a drawstring closure. So even when I closed it around my dog’s neck, she didn’t feel hot at all because the mesh was still breathable!
To add to that, the removable bottom was also surprisingly very comfy and soft. It’s not too thick, but it was able to absorb the shaking while the bike ran. But because my dog is very small (a teacup type), I had to put an additional cushion inside so she could see the view outside.
I also like how it’s thoughtfully designed with three reflective strips. Even though we don’t like riding at night, it’s still a nice safety feature to have.
Best Design Dog Bike Basket
Walky Basket Pet Dog Bicycle Bike Basket
Although the Walky Basket Pet Dog Bicycle Bike Basket comes last on our list, it certainly is a contender. This basket is quite strong and has a good zipper mesh feature to protect your dog.
- Features a comfy padded bottom floor
- With a reflective strip for safety
- Zippered storage pocket to secure your belongings and treats
- Zippered mesh closure on top to keep your belongings in privacy or your pet inside
- Also features a short leash inside
- Easy to clean
- With wire cables to reinforce the bracket that attaches on the handlebars
- Comes with a shoulder strap
- Also includes brackets and an Allen wrench
- Not so easy to install
- There could still be chances of the dog jumping out even with an internal tether
- The brackets may need more reinforcements
The Walky Basket Pet Dog Bicycle Bike Basket is one of the simplest we’ve encountered, but it proved to be quite easy to use and secured enough for smaller dogs.
It’s said to have a weight capacity of 15 pounds, but we suggest mounting only around 12 pounds and below. This is because the basket had some wiggling when we tried it out.
On the other hand…
…its brackets were actually strong. The manufacturers suggested that they be installed by bike experts or professionals, so you may want to remember that. I knew I had the skill, so I took care of it myself. We also added reinforcements to the brackets just to be sure, as they’re made of plastic.
But it did come with extra wires to make the mount stronger, along with other bracket sizes and an Allen wrench, which was greatly appreciated.
The interior was very comfy for our pup. But the thing I liked the most was its zippered closure!
If you’re not content or don’t feel safe enough with a drawstring closure, then this might be for you. You can zip your pup inside and just open the zipper partly to let them enjoy the view and get some fresh air, at the same time being sure that they won’t jump out.
And speaking of jumping out…
…it has a tether sewn inside on its floor. Upon opening the package, the tether would be hidden inside the padding, so be sure to check under it.
It’s a short tether, and we like the added safety feature. But I wouldn’t trust my pet with it alone. They can still jump and just be suspended on air with the tether, so be sure to use a safe body collar or harness or install an additional tether so it won’t choke the dog.
As for me, I just preferred to secure the pup with the zippered cover instead.
Buying Guide To Selecting The Best Dog Bike Basket
Buying a dog bike basket isn’t like buying a fancy couch for them. We’re talking about road transportation for your baby, so the first priority should always be their safety. That said, here are some measures you’d want to take before getting a dog bike carrier.
- Know your baby’s measurements
The right measurement is important to make sure that you’re getting just the right bag or basket for your dogs and that they won’t be overweight inside. Measure their length and width, as well as their weight, so you’d know what size or weight capacity of the carrier to look for.
- Let them get used to the carrier before hitting the road
Some pet owners put the bike carrier in their rooms or the living room first to let the dog use it as a couch or shelter. This way, they easily get familiarized with the carrier, so they don’t feel anxious at all once they hit the road.
- Observe your dog’s behavior
Some pets are anxious dogs. So make sure to observe your pooch first to see if they would be able to handle bike rides. If your dog has any health issues, make sure to check with your vet first.
- Check your bike’s compatibility
This is a very important precaution to take. Make sure that the bike basket you’re getting is compatible with your bike first. If it’s a handlebar mount, make sure that it can be attached to your bike’s type of handlebar. The same goes for dog bike trailers or any kind of dog bike carrier.
- Wear reflective gear
This is most important if you’re biking at night. Get reflective gear or put some reflective stickers on your bike and basket to keep you and your pupperino safe. But of course, it’s still best to pedal during the daytime.

Which Types of Dogs Do Best in a Pet Bike Basket?
Toy breeds or very small dogs are the best types of dogs for handlebar bike carriers. They should also not be more than 11 to 15 pounds for safety reasons. If your medium or large dog is heavier than that, a dog backpack or a trailer would be more suitable so they can still be safe during your bike ride.
Which Type of Dog Bicycle Basket Is Best for Dogs?
It depends on your preference, but if we’re talking about safety, the best dog bike carrier is one with tall sides or walls, such as the COFIT bike basket or the Barkbay pet carrier, so that the dog couldn’t jump off easily. Rattan baskets are good, too, but for added safety, some of them come with a cage cover.
Is It Safe To Put a Dog in a Bike Basket?
Yes, it’s safe to put your furry best friend in your bike basket if and only if the basket is made for carrying dogs and if your dog is within the basket’s weight capacity.
