What did I find particularly safe about this product?
For starters, the cooling packs are incredibly powerful. They provide cooling power that is 12 times more effective than the evaporative fests, or so the packaging says. In many cases I believe this, but this wasn’t 100% true in every instance.
Nonetheless, the cooling was very effective and it did a good job keeping my dog cool and comfortable. I never had to worry about my dog experiencing heat stroke or heat-stress. I took him for a walk on a blisteringly hot summer day while he was wearing this vest and it worked great.
The top-rated vest in this category is of the SGODA Dog Cooling Vest Harness. The SDOGA vest is known for safety, protected from sun damage and UV rays, and it’s a very well-made vest as well. I gave it a 97 out of 100, which is a great score.
At the bottom of the list we have the LUCOLOVE Lightweight Dog Cooling Vest. Before you write this vest off, please know that it received an 87 out of 100, which is well above average as you already know.

From personal experience, I would have to say with certainty that these ice packs never get so cold that they would cause frostbite or skin damage to your pup. But I say this keeping in mind that you are using the cooling vest exactly the way it was designed.
If you were to take the ice packs out of the cooling vest and directly place them on your dog’s skin or fur, then it might lead to mild skin damage, although I wouldn’t say the dog would suffer from frostbite unless you’re intentionally trying to harm the dog.
According to the manufacturer, the ice pack temperatures range between 20°F-45°F outside of the cooling vest. While placed inside the cooling vest, the temperatures range between 35°F-50°F. This isn’t too cold that it would lead to damage or frostbite in my opinion. But avoid placing the ice packs directly on the dog’s skin.
