For starters, one of the big reasons why I wanted to review the LUCOLOVE Lightweight Dog Cooling Vest is because it’s the only really lightweight vest that I came across that also is effective at cooling down dogs. It’s made of breathable material that also retains moisture, which helps to keep my dog’s temperature down on a hot summer day.
As far as ease of taking off and putting on the vest is concerned, I felt that the LUCOLOVE Lightweight Dog Cooling Vest was one of the easiest to get my dog in and out of. From a safety standpoint, I definitely know that this vest is very safe to use. The overall design of the LUCOLOVE Lightweight Dog Cooling Vest was very good, in fact, it’s more than above average, yet it turned out to be one of my least favorites in this category. I have nothing to say about this vest because the design is perfectly fine, but the lightweight material makes it seem like it could potentially tear easier than the other products.
The sizing for this product is excellent. It fit my dog like a glove and I have absolutely no complaints in this particular category because they did a great job with their sizing chart.

The lowest ranked product is named the Evaporative Cooling Dog Vest. This product scored an 87 out of 100, which is well above average, so it’s nothing to be concerned with. I only had a slight amount of difficulty taking the vest off and putting it back on again, but it was nothing to really complain or worry about.
The LUCOLOVE Lightweight Dog Cooling Vest was nearly perfect, but my dog put up a minuscule struggle, which is why I knocked 4 points off of the total score.
I promise that this is a great vest and it was very easy to put on and take off of my dog. I assume that you’ll have the same experiences I did, because my dog is usually fussy and particular but this vest was no big deal to him.

When it comes to Safety, this is going to seem terrible at first because I gave the LUCOLOVE Lightweight Dog Cooling Vest the lowest score out of the 6 that I reviewed during the testing phase. But don’t be alarmed, because the final score was 87 out of 100, which is a solid B+ grade in my book.
Why did I lower the score? The vest protects from overheating, which is the main reason why we’re purchasing a vest like this in the first place. It also reduces sun damage, but as far as I can tell, it doesn’t actually provide UV Ray protection.
UV Ray protection isn’t an absolute must for dogs, not unlike humans, but it’s a feature that I prefer whenever possible.
The SGODA Dog Cooling Vest Harness came in first place with an almost near-perfect score of 97 out of 100. It shouldn’t surprise you to learn that this vest does have UV Ray protection, it does keep the dog’s body fully protected from sun damage, and it does have incredible dog cooling capabilities all rolled into one product.

The overall winner is once again the SGODA Dog Cooling Vest Harness. This particular cooling vest received a 96 out of 100, which is only 2 points better than the vest that I’m reviewing today.
What made the LUCOLOVE vest stand out so much? I love that the lightweight material is breathable, which is important because you don’t want to add a heavy garment on your dog’s back on a hot summer day because it almost seems counterproductive.
But the real kicker is the moisture-retaining fabric that this vest is made of. It keeps the moisture safely stored within the vest, which has the ability to keep the dog cool even in hot climates and other warm conditions. Combine this with the UPF50+ protection, which will prevent overheating and protect the chest and back of the dog from sun damage and heatstroke, which definitely makes this a phenomenal product, to say the least.
The lowest-scoring product in this category is called the Evaporative Cooling Dog Vest. I gave it an 86 out of 100, which knocks it to the bottom of the list for cooling effectiveness. It works well, but it doesn’t necessarily work great, which is why the other products excelled more than this one.

Why did I knock off nine points?
To put it bluntly, I really like the design and the breathable material for the summertime, which is important for dogs. But at the same time, the breathable material is also on the thinner side, so it could potentially rip easier than thicker vests of this type.
I want to be clear and say that my LUCOLOVE Cooling Vest never actually ripped, so I’m only speculating at this point. But thinner material wears out faster than thicker material as we all know, so it will inevitably wear out faster than thicker cooling vests.
The top-rated product in this category is SGODA Dog Cooling Vest Harness. Is anyone surprised at this point? It’s a dominant product, to say the least, which is why it received a 98 out of 100. The product is sturdy, well designed, and well put together as you can imagine.
Bringing up the rear is the Pecute Dog Cooling Vest Harness. I gave this product a score of 89 out of 100, for nearly the same reasons why I lowered the score of the LUCOLOVE Cooling Vest as well.

When it comes to the category Sizing, the LUCOLOVE Lightweight Dog Cooling Vest is an excellent choice. In fact, I placed this product in 2nd place in this category, and for good reason. I gave it a total score of 94 out of 100, which is phenomenal, to say the least.
What made me score it so highly? I liked the way that it fit my dog immediately. I followed the sizing chart and used it to determine the perfect fit. And it really worked, which is why I think this is one of the best products as far as sizing is concerned.
The #1 product is called the Pecute Dog Cooling Vest Harness. I scored it a 96 out of 100 because no other cooling vests fit better than this one on my dog. And after reading other reviews from previous owners, they also were very impressed with the sizing as well.
At the bottom of the list is the shocker of all shockers. Normally ranked #1 in every category, the SGODA Dog Cooling Vest Harness didn’t fit as well as the other vests. After wetting the vest, it expanded it by a little bit, which unfortunately made it fit loosely, which isn’t as good as a snugger fit. I still gave the product an 89 out of 100, which is a great score nonetheless.

So, if you plan to keep your dog outside for two hours, as an example, you’ll likely want to wet the vest a second time. This will allow your dog to remain cool for an additional 30-60 minutes, because the evaporation process is what keeps your dog cool, so having more water evaporate while pulling the heat out of its fur will prolong your ability to keep your dog remaining cool on a hot summer’s day.

I can say with absolute certainty that other dog owners were very impressed with the LUCOLOVE Lightweight Dog Cooling Vest when they used it on their dogs with double-coated fur. In particular, one yellow lab owner claims that this dog cooling vest is actually a lifesaver because it kept her dog cool while she was camping in 100° weather!
I’d say give it a shot and see how well it works for your dog even if it’s double-coated. You can always return it if it doesn’t seem to be as effective as you hoped for, although I do not expect this to be a problem based on the satisfactory experiences of previous customers.

You can always test it and see how it works on your dog during the winter. If you have a dog with double-coated fur or relatively thick fur, this lightweight vest might be more than enough to provide extra warmth on a cold day.

- I found this vest to be incredibly effective at keeping my dog cool on very hot and humid summer days. It lasts for 30-60 minutes before all of the water evaporates. But you can soak it in cool water again and begin the process all over very quickly and easily.
- The overall design of this vest is phenomenal in my opinion. The only negative mark is that the material is very thin and lightweight, which is certainly cooling and comforting on a hot summer day. But the thin material will likely wear out faster than some of the other cooling vests in this category.
